WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS FOR KIDNEY STONES AND URINARY TRACT DISEASES?
Pain at the flank and waist that spreads to the front of stomach or to the fold of your thighs (lower abdomen), urine with a redish hue, grainy urine and soreness post urination. However, sometimes only stiffness at the flank or waist is felt; and even, many often experience no symptoms (silent stone).
WHAT INSPECTIONS WILL BE DONE BY THE DOCTOR TO DIAGNOSE URINARY TRACT STONES?
Your hospital chart; physical examinations; lab examinations of your urine and blood; Ultrasonography (USG) of kidney and bladder; X- Ray of the kidney and bladder with dye contrast (BNO-IVP). The Urologist will then determine the measures to be taken to handle the kidney stone and bladder.
SHOULD KIDNEY STONES AND BLADDER ALWAYS BE SURGICALLY OPERATED?
Not every kidney stones and bladder must be surgically removed. Currently, a technology that is able to solve stones through just the exterior of the body is available (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy = ESWL), needing no surgery, sedation, or hospitalization.

WHAT IS ESWL?
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy is a solving action that will break internal stones from the externals of the body with the aid of shock waves. Kidney stones and urinary tract stones can be broken to smaller fragments so that the stone pieces may escape the body with the urine. This EDAP instrument originating from France has been widely used in many great health centers like Lyon Sud Hospital (France), St. Mary’s Hospital Portsmouth (England), Central Washington Hospital (USA), Nihon University Itabashi Hospital (Japan), Korea University Ansan Hospital (Korea), National University Hospital (Singapore), Gleneagles Medical Centre Penang (Malaysia), RS. Cipto Mangunkusomo (Jakarta), RS. Soetomo (Surabaya), and Karsuneka Urology Center (Bali).
HOW SUCCESSFUL ARE THERAPIES WITH ESWL?
The fruitfulness of therapies with ESWL depends greatly on the location, size, and type of the stone. Generally, the success to be relieved from stones reach up to 90%.
